Athenry Golf Club located mid
way between Athenry and Oranmore at the townland of
Palmerstown. Athenry Golf Club is a mixture of parkland and
heathland built on a limestone base against the backdrop of
a large forest giving excellent drainage and remaining
playable all year round.
Celebrating its centenary in
2002 this pleasant test of Golf on the outskirts of Galway
City offers a challenge for golfers of all standards on a
course which is uncrowded mid-week.
Extended to 18 holes in 1991 under the guidance of renowned
architect Eddie Hackett and further improvements in recent
years by Eddie Connaughton have led to the Club hosting
recent Provincial and National championships.
Modern clubhouse with a friendly atmosphere gives excellent
views of much of the course and adjoining famous "Fields of
Athenry".
Feature holes are 3 par 3's in the adjoining wood with the
signature 12th hole of 193 yards from an elevated tee
amongst a corridor of beech and pine trees one of most
challenging and scenic holes to be seen throughout Ireland.
