The community of Kiltullagh/Killimordaly
contains many sites and buildings of historical interest
which reflect the rich historical tapestry of Ireland. In
ancient times, the parish formed part of ancient territory
of Hymany and was the stronghold of the O'Kelly's.
Some features of historical interest to be found in the area
include the remains of Kiltullagh House, family home of the
renowned D'Arcy family, Kiltullagh Forge, Stations of the
Cross in Kiltullagh Church, painted by world famous stain
glass window artist Eva Hoan, and a 17th Century marriage
stone in the churchyard adjacent to Killimordaly Castle.
The parish is bisected by the Raford River, which is rich in
trout. It is a tributary of the Dunkellin River and floods
in winter, like much of the Dunkellin basin. There are major
bogland areas at Attymon and Cloonkeen, now commercially run
by Attymon Peat Co-op.
