Moyode Castle   -   Athenry

Moyode Castle, a stunning example of a sixteenth-century fortified Burke tower house located 3.5 miles from the Galway market town of Athenry.

Sitting in rural splendor at the far edge of a 35 acre grazing pasture, the top of the tower has unsurpassed views of largely unspoiled countryside.

Purchased as a ruin by the American historian James Charles Roy in 1969, the tower has been largely restored: the walls re-pointed, the gables rebuilt and roofed with historic blue bangors, many of the floors paved in Liscannor stone, window lintels installed and glassed.
